NIEMEN ~ DZIWNY JEST TEN SWIAT
MUZA 353 ~ POLAND ~ Progressive Rock

1st album from 1967. This epic album not only changed the face of popular music in Poland, but in fact took by storm all the so called Socialistic countries (Czechoslowakia, Hungary, Soviet Union, etc.) and was considered the turning point of popular music in the Eastern Block for centuries. The music, which is based in rock, but comes with a special melodic twist and incorporates Eastern European folk music, jazz, blues and and other influences. It was so revolutionary at the time that it struck musicians and the public with an unprecedented power, leaving a mark for decades. Niemen wrote almost all the music and most of the texts (in Polish), using poetry by famous Polish poets in some of the songs. Listening to this album is not only a trip down the memory lane - it is a fierce musical experience. Absolutely not to be missed!
