VIRTA ~ HURMOS SVART 047 (Barcode: 6430050668570) ~ FINLAND ~ Jazz-Ambient Fusion Recorded: 2016 Released: 2016 This is the second album by Finnish experimental Jazz trio VirtaFind albums by this artist comprising of trumpeter / vocalist Antti HevosmaaFind albums by this artist, guitarist / vocalist Heikki SelamoFind albums by this artist and drummer Erik FrakiFind albums by this artist. All three utilize also a plethora of electronic devices. The album presents seven original compositions, all co-composed by the trio members. The music is a unique amalgam of dense electronic and acoustic music, presenting beautifully melodic Nordic elements and contemporary ambient soundscapes. This kind of mixture of acoustic Jazz and strong electronic enhancement has become quite popular with many young European ensembles and seems to be able to create a new sub-genre, which develops consistently in the last few years. The trumpet and guitar solos are superbly accompanied by dense layers of electronically generated sounds, which wonderfully accompany the sound of the acoustic instruments. The resulting music is hypnotic and beautifully atmospheric, keeping the listener in suspense and trans-like state of anticipation, which are intense but not overbearing. The solid and imaginative drum parts serve as the music heartbeat. Overall this is a superb sophomore album and since it was released almost four years ago, I am eagerly awaiting their third album. In the meantime I strongly recommend to all lovers of young and blistering Jazz music to get a copy of this CD, released by the adventurous SvartFind albums on this label Record label, before it completely disappears from the market. A real gem!
