THOMAS JADERLUND AMAZING ORCHESTRA ~ THOMAS JADERLUND AMAZING ORCHESTRA
CAPRICE 22045 (Barcode: 7391782220452) ~ SWEDEN ~ Free Jazz / Improvised Music

Recorded: 1994 Released: 1997

This is an album by the European septet called Amazing OrchestraFind albums by this artist led by Swedish saxophonist Thomas JaderlundFind albums by this artist which also includes Polish trumpeter Tomasz StankoFind albums by this artist, Swiss guitarist Christy DoranFind albums by this artist, Norwegian tuba player Stein-Erik TafjordFind albums by this artist, American (of Slovenian roots) accordionist Guy KlucevsekFind albums by this artist, Swedish cellist and bassist Svante HenrysonFind albums by this artist and Swedish drummer Jonny AxelssonFind albums by this artist. The 2CD album presents twenty one compositions, all composed by the septet members with about half of them by Jaderlund.

The music in an eclectic amalgam of styles and genres, which include European Folklore, Fusion, Jazz, Free Jazz and Improvised Music. Some of the pieces are pre-composed, others are spontaneously improvised in the studio. Overall this album offers well over two hours of a musical kaleidoscope, which keeps evolving and changing all the time, full of surprises and unexpected developments.

The septet does not play as one ensemble at all times and the performances move between solos, duos, trios, etc. which of course creates another element of constant transformation. The individual performances are of course stellar, as expected from musicians of this class, which of course ensures that the listener is never bored.

For the Polish Jazz fans the presence of Tomasz Stanko on this album should be of interest, as this album is pretty obscure and almost never mentioned in his discographies.

Overall this album is a wonderful example of the versatility and openness of the European Jazz scene and a collection of musical wonders definitely worth investigating!
