This is the debut album by Austrian Jazz piano trio called LUTrioFind albums by this artist, led by drummer Lukas KleemairFind albums by this artist, with pianist Urs HagerFind albums by this artist and bassist Tobias SteinruckFind albums by this artist. The album presents nine tracks, five of which are original compositions by the leader, two are Jazz standards and two are interpretations of a Pop song and a Classical piece.
The music is all well within mainstream Jazz idiom, close to the classic Jazz piano trio image much loved by Jazz listeners, very well played by all three musicians. The pianist demonstrates a modern approach, which allows him to move away at liberty from the strict melody lines, which of course makes thing much more interesting. The rhythm section sticks to conventional accompaniment, with occasional solo parts.
The original material is solid and serves as excellent base for the improvisations, and the arrangements of the standards are creative enough to be interesting. The trio performs well together, as appropriate for professionals, which is exactly what the doctor prescribed.
Overall, this is a very solid classic Jazz piano trio album, which should keep the fans of the genre happy. Perhaps a tad conventional, but on the other hand sticking to the tradition is not a crime and there are always listeners happy to hear exactly that kind of Jazz.
