ONENESS ~ MAN CAN CHANGE
IMMERSIVE SOUND 03/2022 (Barcode: 5904224479336) ~ POLAND ~ Jazz-World Fusion

Recorded: 2022 Released: 2022

This is the debut album by Polish quartet OnenessFind albums by this artist, comprising of accordionist Oleg DyyakFind albums by this artist, violinist Jaroslaw TyralaFind albums by this artist, bassist Wojciech FrontFind albums by this artist and cellist Maciej LacnyFind albums by this artist. The first three were members of the early lineups of Cracow Klezmer BandFind albums by this artist, later Bester QuartetFind albums by this artist. The album presents eight tracks, six of which are original compositions (two each by Front, Dyyak and Tyrala), one is by Austrian accordionist / composer Klaus PaierFind albums by this artist and another one by Martin SchwarzFind albums by this artist, a renown Klezmer music researcher.

The music is as cross-genre as one might imagine, but has a specific sound and characteristic stylistic approach, which offers Jazzy improvisations, folkloristic / World Music affinity, classical music fluency, etc. in short a mishmash of many elements, which work together splendidly and enable a wide range of listeners to find familiar elements.

The performances are all absolutely professional and heartwarming and the entire project makes perfect sense musically. There is a lot of references to Klezmer music, similarly to the repertoire of the a.m. Cracow Klezmer Band, but also many new elements, taken from other cultural spheres. The original compositions are all coherent, beautifully melodic and serve perfectly as vehicles for the improvised soloing by all the quartet members.

Overall, this is a wonderful album, full of great music and superb performances, which should make every true music lover perfectly satisfied. Although the music defies a precise definition, it might be considered as Jazz-World Fusion, for a lack of a better “label”, but honestly it is way beyond labeling and should be embraced for its beauty and aesthetic value. Well done, Gentlemen!
