ALEXANDER BAK-HANSEN TRIO ~ UNDER TRAETOPPENE I SORO
GATEWAY 5707471098868 (Barcode: 5707471098868) ~ DENMARK ~ Jazz

Recorded: 2024 Released: 2024

This is the debut album by Danish Jazz pianist / composer Alexander Bak-HansenFind albums by this artist, recorded in a classic piano trio setting with bassist Emil MadsenFind albums by this artist and drummer Nikolaj BangsgaardFind albums by this artist. Saxophonist Christian Holm-SvendsenFind albums by this artist and guitarist Mads OldenskovFind albums by this artist guest on a couple of tracks. The album presents seven tracks, all original compositions by the leader.

The music is melodic modern mainstream Jazz, based on solid compositions by the leader, and played well by the trio, as expected from the excellently trained young European musicians these days. The music flows gently, but without any major surprises, creating a classic piano trio display, which is one of the favorite Jazz milieus.

Bak-Hansen has all the ingredients necessary in order to develop his own style and character, both as far as playing the piano and composing, but those have not yet matured enough to offer a truly exciting musical experience. I am pretty sure that his next recording will be way more exciting. But of course there is nothing wrong with this album, except the missing personal element, which will take it to the next level.

Overall, this is a very well done Jazz piano trio album, which can be enjoyed by many enthusiasts of this form, and which offers a glimpse of the skills and talent of all the participants and the potential to create a more ambitious work in the future.
