MARCELLO SEBASTIANI HU TRIO ~ NOTHING SO ABSTRACT
NOTAMI 044 (Barcode: 8054729511301) ~ ITALY ~ Jazz

Recorded: 2022 Released: 2023

This is an album by Italian bassist / composer Marcello SebastianiFind albums by this artist, recorded in a classic piano trio setting with two Hungarian Jazz musicians, pianist Gaspar KarolyFind albums by this artist and drummer Bagyi BalazsFind albums by this artist. The album, recorded in Hungary, presents eight tracks, four of which are original compositions by Sebastiani, one is by Karoly and three are standards. One of the tracks is a bass solo.

The music is modern mainstream Jazz, based on excellent original compositions by Sebastiani, played elegantly by the trio, with all three musicians showing their chops along the way. The bass is a little higher in the mix than usual, which is quite appropriate in this case, considering the bassist is the leader. His soloing is warm and round and is a true pleasure to follow, when building up, but of course he also supports the trio all through with his strong, steady and highly melodic pulsations. Both Hungarians are also excellent, which is hardly surprising considering the excellent level of education and Jazz activity in the country.

Overall, although not surprising or innovating, this is a very good Jazz piano trio album, which the lovers of this particular niche should enjoy from start to finish. It is also a document of the wide cooperation between European Jazz musicians, which enables a fruitful exchange of ideas and influences. Excellently recorded and performed, this album should find many favorable ears among Jazz enthusiasts the world over.
