ZESPOL INSTRUMENTALNY MARKA SEWENA ~ KSIEZYC NA TAHITI
GAD 100 (Barcode: 5903068120398) ~ POLAND ~ Lounge Music

Recorded: 1969 Released: 2019

This is a reissue of a rather unusual instrumental album, which proves that American form of orchestral popular music known as Lounge Music, which was extremely trendy during the 1950s and to less extent in the 1960s managed to penetrate the Irion Curtain as effectively as other forms of Western propaganda. Polish composer / arranger / conductor Marek SewenFind albums by this artist imported it into Poland after spending some time in the US, and although over a decade later it appeared to be equally popular with some Polish folks as well.

The album presents twelve easy-listening melodies, half of which are traditional folk tunes (exotic Hawaiian style at the helm), one is an original by Sewen and the rest come form various sources. The music is performed by an orchestra and several soloists, including a whistler and the Hammond organ player Piotr FigielFind albums by this artist, and was arranged by Sewen.

In retrospect the music is as ridiculous as it was at the time, no less than kitsch incarnate, but as these thing go, it is so bad that it is good, especially as a sociological exercise. A curio at best, but what fun ;)
