KARIN KROG ~ HUSKONSERT I AURSKOG
MEANIME 06 (Barcode: 7051070000066) ~ NORWAY ~ Jazz-World Fusion

Recorded: 1995 Released: 1996

This is a beautiful album by Norwegian Jazz vocalist / songwriter Karin KrogFind albums by this artist, on which she pays tribute to her great-grandfather Anders HeyerdahlFind albums by this artist, violinist / composer and Norwegian Folk music collector. The album presents twenty-two tracks, which include classical music composed by Heyerdahl and folk songs he collected, transcribed and composed. The music is performed by Krog, fiddler Matts BerglundFind albums by this artist, saxophonist John SurmanFind albums by this artist, pianist Einar Henning SmebyeFind albums by this artist and Der Norske StrykekvartettFind albums by this artist (string quartet). The album was co-produced by Karin and John Surman and recorded by our Friend Jan Erik KongshaugFind albums by this artist, at his legendary Rainbow Studio in Oslo, and offers a spectacular sound quality.

Although the album is intended as a tribute, the music is excellent from start to finish, especially the Folk songs performed by Krog with Surman’s accompaniment on bass clarinet. But the classical pieces and the Folk melodies played by Berglund are also fascinating.

Overall, this is a highly unusual collection of music connected to Anders Heyerdahl, which deserves to be heard and is a beautiful musical experience from start to end, being an obvious labor of love by Krog and her companions.
