NVC ~ EMOCJE
AUDIO CAVE 2021/008 (Barcode: 5908298549377) ~ POLAND ~ Jazz-Ambient Fusion

Recorded: 2021 Released: 2021

This is the second album by the Polish Jazz-Ambient Fusion quartet NVCFind albums by this artist (a.k.a. Non Violent CommunicationFind albums by this artist), which comprises of saxophonist Rafal WawszkiewiczFind albums by this artist, electronic sounds and computers operator Michal GlowackiFind albums by this artist, (new) bassist Grzegorz ChudzikFind albums by this artist and drummer Arek LerchFind albums by this artist. The album presents five original compositions, two of which last well over ten minutes in duration. The composers are not specifically credited and therefore the music is assumed to be collectively composed.

Stylistically the music continues faithfully the formula presented on the excellent debut album, which consists of the saxophone performing all the melodic contents on top of a wall of sound electronically created ambient layers and driven by the highly energetic rhythm section. It is as overwhelming and hypnotic as the debut, but naturally less surprising this time.

Wawszkiewicz, who is a most unusual and unique saxophonist, obviously draws most of the attention of the listener, and his lyrical expressionism offers a wonderful contrast to the almost alienated and rugged background, creating a delightfully effective aura, as hypnotic as a fakir charming a snake. The steady beat and almost Funky bass add to the feeling of floating in space and NVC excel in their ability to entice the listener into their magical sound, taking no prisoners.

The combined talents of the quartet are certainly a phenomenon worthy of attention, especially now, when they passed successfully the “second album test”. However, considering how akin this music is in comparison to the debut, they certainly need to expand their future concept to some extent, in order not to lose the momentum.

Overall this is another superb album by NVC, absolutely mesmerizing from start to finish, with the quartet offering a unique approach and sound on the Polish Jazz scene, which considering how competitive that scene is, is almost miraculous. Well done indeed!
