This is the debut album by Polish Jazz Marimbazzi DuoFind albums by this artist, which comprises of Jakub KolodziejczykFind albums by this artist, who plays vibraphone and marimba, and Pawel DyyakFind albums by this artist, who plays marimba and percussion. The album presents eight tracks, all original compositions by the duo members, some individual and other co-composed. The music is splendidly recorded and the album offers a wonderful sound quality.
The duo members perform in various configurations, like two marimbas, vibraphone and marimba or vibraphone and percussion, playing melody based pieces with extended improvised parts. The stylistic range is pretty diverse, but the music offers a distinctive Jazzy flavor at all times.
The unusual sound of the duo is a striking novelty and for vibraphone / marimba lovers, like myself, this is an absolute marvel from start to finish. All the compositions are coherent and clever, and the performances are nothing short of stellar, which results in a highly unique listening experience. The duo definitely qualifies as a proud representative of the “Art of the Duo” Jazz category.
Overall, this is a beautiful, very delicate and highly unusual album, which offers a rare opportunity to hear less common instruments in action, superb duo performances and excellent, uncommon music. Hats off to these young musician, who are willing to choose the less travelled path in music.
