This is the second album by the London based international quintet Deco EnsembleFind albums by this artist, dedicated to interpretation of the Argentinean Nuevo Tango. The album presents twelve compositions, four of which are by Astor PiazzollaFind albums by this artist, including the three part devil´s cycle, two compositions each are by contemporary Argentinean Nuevo Tango composers Ramiro GalloFind albums by this artist and Emiliano GrecoFind albums by this artist and three original compositions are by the ensemble´s member Ricardo Gosalbo. The title track was composed by the Argentinean Jazz / Tango pianist / composer Diego SchissiFind albums by this artist.

The music is, as expected, absolutely wonderful and even breathtaking at times, both due to the excellent selection of material and the level of the original compositions, and of course by the masterful execution by these virtuosi players. The guitar is the obvious Jazz element of the quintet and Luft´s parts are absolute gems, whereas the rest of the ensemble members show obvious Classical Music mannerisms. Personally I find the music to be a tad too cerebral at times, and miss the Tango fire and mischievous attitude, but this elegant European treatment of the Tango elements has without a doubt a very specific charm.

Overall this is a superb Tango album, a bit "tamed" perhaps but gloriously musical and elegant, which should keep all the hardcore connoisseurs of the genre perfectly happy. For people new to the Tango, especially those coming from Classical Music, this is a wonderful introduction to the idiom.
